High Mountain Hogs is located in Trinity County California between Eureka and Redding. Our place is about 18 miles off Hwy 36. I first began raising pigs for my family, to fill the freezer, but piglets were pretty scarce in my area. I finally found a lady two hours away that had good stock. I raised meat hogs for a couple of years and had so many people ask where I had gotten them, that I decided to start breeding them myself.  I've been around farm animals my whole life, but didn't really know much about breeding pigs. Needless to say I got a lot of "on the job training." 

After raising meat quality pigs for several years, I became interested in the show pig industry.  That was a whole other can of worms!  I had never known there was a difference between a show pig and a meat pig.  I definitely know now. 

I have begun showing my own pigs in shows in California, it is a very rewarding experience.  I learn something

new from every show I attend.  It has taken a few years, hundreds of miles on the truck, and a few thousand dollars later, but I believe I have some pretty good breeding stock now.  

I've been lucky enough to meet other people who are knowledgeable about pigs and they have helped answer the hundreds of questions I've had. Although I continue to learn new things everyday I've attained a level of knowledge that allows my stock to be competitive.

The feedback that I'm getting from current customers has been pretty positive.  I don't claim to know it all or have the best pigs, however my pigs are doing well in the shows for the 4-H kids.
